What a splendid way to spend a Winter Sunday in the Bathurst region!
The sun shone on verdant hills. Cattle stood, as if posing, against the cloudless skyline, as we wandered along the back roads of Bathurst, taking in previously unseen vistas.
Six coaches transported 300 expectant participants to the different venues where our local restaurants provided sublime food to accompany the wines and spirits on the participating vineyards and distilleries.
Winburndale Winery was my first stop where The Perthvillians greeted us with some evocative music from the sixties. Many swayed to the lively rendition of Georgy Girl as we imbibed some 2011 Alluvial Chardonnay and relished Phillipe’s Soupe de Poussin with Saffron Aioli. Bliss!
The Bathurst Winter Winery Wander is an annual event held each June and it promotes the food and wine of our region.
This year the participating wineries were: Stone Pine Distillery, 3 Views Vineyard , Mount Panorama Estate Vineyard , Winburndale Winery , Vale Creek Winery and Renzagia Wines.
The restaurants coupled with the wineries were Legall Patisserie , The Wholefood Kitchen , Rydges, Abercrombie House , Algona, ,and Restaurant Ninety Two.
As we reluctantly made our way home watching the sun set in a spectacular sky I reflected on the serendipitous decision I made nearly four decades ago to leave the bright lights of the city for the rich cultural heritage that is Bathurst .
